Sunday Dinner with People of Color
We’ve been cooking up a new founder interview series: The Sunday Dinner Series. In this special series, we’ll be getting to know Black business owners on a deeper level than their founding story. Every founder is a human--mother, father, child, and dreamer--just like us. Our Sunday dinner series will make the founders of your favorite Black-owned businesses feel like family, as if you’re talking to them over your favorite meal on a Sunday evening.
We recently sat down with Jacqueline Carrington, the founder of People of Color, as our premier interviewee. Our conversation touched on the legacy of People of Color, how Jacqueline planted her entrepreneurial roots in high school, and her favorite Sunday Dinner, of course. Spoiler alert: it’s Lasagna.
People of Color is a nail polish brand for people of color and those who live in color. Jacqueline Carrington founded People of Color beauty after realizing how much her 3-year-old daughter, Monroe, loved painting her nails when visiting her grandmother. Monroe’s love for nail polish reminded Jacqueline of how she never painted her nails growing up because the advertisements never showed nail polish colors on brown skin. Because of this, she could never picture nail polish on her own hands. In 2019, Jacqueline took matters into her own hands and launched People of Color, running it full time.
We invite you to Sunday Dinner with Jacqueline!
Lamik Beauty:
LAMIK is an acronym that stands for Love and Makeup In Kindness. LAMIK Beauty is a vegan makeup line made with natural and organic ingredients for multicultural women. Kim Roxie, the founder of LAMIK Beauty, inherited her love for makeup from her mother, who was her first investor and inspiration for LAMIK’s mission. Kim has had a 20 year career in the beauty industry as a makeup artist and business owner. LAMIK first started in 2004 as a local beauty shop in Houston, Texas. It functioned as a community space where women could come together to get their makeup done and buy Kim’s own handmade products. In the 16 years since its founding, LAMIK Beauty has grown tremendously with products for brows, face, eyes, and lips. In 2021, LAMIK was the first Black-owned, clean makeup brand to launch on Ulta.com.
Reasons we love LAMIK:
They use safe, natural ingredients that make your body feel good while you look good
They sell both products and tools, and they have tutorials so you can become a makeup pro at home
They make custom blend foundations so that everyone can find their perfect shade. You know how we love personalization ;)
LAMIK is here to help reveal everyone's inner beauty through products you can feel good about applying
It’s 2022 now. As consumers, we should hold businesses accountable for the ingredients that they put into their products. At the very least, businesses should be transparent about any potentially harmful ingredients in their products. LAMIK is holding the beauty industry to a higher standard. Their products feature ingredients that come from the Earth and have been used for hundreds of years. This is what makes LAMIK truly unique. The next time you’re anxiety online shopping, check out LAMIK Beauty. You won’t regret it.
